Hot off the SacPress: Small Business Celebrate the Holidays in a BIG Way this Year!

There is no doubt that businesses in general have suffered through our ever-changing economy. Businesses on multiple levels have had to make sacrifices; downsizing, cutting salaries, furloughing, laying off, and certainly cutting expenses.Small business, especially in Sacramento, is no exception. One expense that seems to be a commonality, is the Company Holiday Party.

Historically, no matter how large or small an office or business is, company's have celebrated the holidays and their accomplishments with their partners, employees, and sometimes, vendors and customers. It is a time when people put work aside, and come together over food, drinks, entertainment and memories that often survive the company itself.

This year, small and medium sized businesses, consultants, solopreneurs, coaches, recruiters, relators and attorney's are all invited to participate in Get Networking Now's inaugural "Sacramento Region Company Holiday Party"! On Thursday, December 17, business owners, their employees, their vendors and key clients will enjoy a "BIG" celebration on a small business budget! Part of the proceeds will also benefit a local childrens' arts organization, Chalk It Up!

Chef Simon Mandell, co-owner of Courtyard D'Oro a new restaurant and banquet faciliaty in Old Sacramento, is preparing a "feast" for these hardworking entrepreneurs consisting of four cuisines, followed by dessert, dancing, music, entertainment. and "swag bags" with special offers, samples and promotions from local businesses. The event is scheduled from 6-10 pm at Courtyard D'Oro, which is located at 1700 Front Street under G Williker's Toy Emporium.

Ticket prices are $40 at the door, $35 presale. Special Pricing is available for small businesses with profiles on www.sacgnn.com and is FREE with paid monthly membership to Get Networking Now. Tickets may be purchased at: http://sacareacompanyparty.eventbrite.com/

SacGNN finds Appointment Scheduling tool "Fresh"

I have been looking for an online scheduling tool to help book and keep appointments! With the high amount of requests I receive for meeting with people and being out of the office all the time,

I was struggling with a way to allow people view my calendar availability and SIMPLY be able to schedule a time that works with BOTH of our schedules to have a meeting.

I tried a few different variations but ran into some of these issues:

* It wouldn't sync with my existing Google Calendar both to AND from
* It allowed people to "suggest times" which took longer to coordinate because people wouldn't always respond in a timely manner and the slots would fill up
* It wasn't user friendly
* It didnt offer Widgets or integrate with my Facebook which is where I do a lot of business

And so many other things...

I tried free and paid services only to to find that I was spending more time trying to create appointments than I was actually going on appointments!

Then I met with my Chief of Technology, Dan Fisher who did some research and came upon the most awesome, user friendly appointment booking program "Book Fresh".

I now have a program that fully integrates with my calenders, and a "Fresh" looking widget that I can have on my web page, facebook, email and allows perspective clients to pick a date and time that works best for them. There is very little "back and forth" communication/coordination that has to take place and it is SUPER user friendly!

It's an intelligent piece of technology that is worth a million bucks but only costs me about $20 per month!!

Check it out and book an appointment! I will treat you to coffee!!

A question I always get asked is how to find what’s happening in Sacramento! Families are always looking for things to do, that are low cost and fun! Business people are always trying to find new places to network and meet other business owners.

I laugh everytime someone says “there is nothing to do”!

There are great places to find things to do in Sacramento!

Sacramento365.com has a comprehensive list of all the “Big” things happening in the area. Festivals, Concerts, Art Exhibits, Nightlife and more! They also have a “Free Things to Do” Section!

Get Networking Now (SacGNN.com) has a very comprehensive business to business networking calendar that outlines networking events, classes and trainings, community events, ribbon cuttings, chamber events, and so much more, every month!

MeetUp.com is another great resource to connect and meet people based on your locations and interests. There are hundreds of opportunities to meet new people each month in various settings! You will most likely find an existing group that would satisfy your interests, but if not, you can create your own to meet like-minded people!

CraigsList.org also lists activities and events that are available to you in your area!

If you are looking to volunteer in your community, check out Allforgood.org or Hands On Sacramento. Both sites list opportunities to get involved and make a difference!

Of course, InMyCommunity.com is a great resource to meet people right in your own back yard! If you are looking for ways to connect with your neighbors, attend a neighborhood meeting, check out the local churches, and recereational centers! Better yet, organize a BBQ, game night or day in the park and invite your neighbors!

Between the websites I mentioned, and places like Facebook, Twitter and your community newspapers, there is plenty of things to do!

So don’t waste time asking for an invitation, get out there and get active today!

Big Build of the New Central Terminal B

Sacramento International Airport - Terminal B

Construction on the Big Build of the New Central Terminal B at Sacramento International Airport began in June 2008. The new terminal, scheduled to open in early 2012, will include a landside terminal, an automated people mover, a two-level roadway, and a 19-gate airside concourse. With the opening just 2.5 years away, the airport is gearing up to lease concession space in the new facility.

The New Central Terminal B is designed to reflect the Sacramento Valley proximity to two mountain ranges, and the canopy of its tree-lined streets. One of the County Airport System top priorities for this project is to create a diverse marketplace that also reflects a sense of place and makes Sacramento International Airport memorable. Sacramento International Airport is seeking high quality, unique businesses to help reach this goal.

This is an opportunity to bring a mix of local, regional and national businesses to Sacramento International Airport, said Director of Airports G. Hardy Acree. We want our airport to offer visitors an experience that is distinct to Sacramento.

As part of the concessions outreach effort, the County Airport System is hosting two informational meetings on September 24, 2009. All businesses are invited to join the airport for these informative sessions on the Big Build project, including tips on how to operate at the airport and how to propose a business for the New Central Terminal B. The airport invites participation from restaurants, retail merchants and passenger service providers.

Date: Thursday, September 24
Retail and Services Session Time: 10 a.m. to 12 noon
Food and Beverage Session Time: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

RSVP for location and directions by September 17 to Sarah Cannon at (916) 874-0911 or cannons@saccounty.net.

Sacramento County Airport System is responsible for planning, developing, operating and maintaining the county four airports: Sacramento International Airport, Executive Airport, Mather Airport and Franklin Field. For more information on the system, visit www.sacairports.org. For more information on the Big Build, visit www.bigbuild.org.

twaitter Gator! After While Crockodile!

I Just LOVE this new software! I am such a "Twitter Dork" and have resisted really diving in to the Twitter Phenominan! But this makes it so easy!

"If you are one of the growing Twitter user community, you've probably been in one of the following situations where Twaitter can help:

  • Ever had an idea for a tweet, but wanted to send it later or at a specific time?
Want to setup your #FollowFriday posts throughout the week so you dont forget to share great tweeple with your followers?

  • Have a fellow Twitterer whose birthday is coming up in a few days, but you’re afraid you might forget to send a "Happy Birthday" tweet when the day arrives?

  • Spend more time on Twitter than your work calendar? Ever want to send yourself a reminder or remind friends or followers of something?

  • Want to participate in a scheduled Twitter conversation even when you are too busy to attend?

  • Want to have links in your blog RSS feed automatically sent to Twitter?

  • Want to schedule a tweet to go out at 8:14AM (and not 8AM sharp)?…You can do it all with twaitter. "

So Tweet Later with "twaitter"!

Remember the Milk and other important things too!

I found this awesome "task management" software that helped me get my email inbox from over 500 to 29!

I am guilty of "flagging" emails I need to followup on only to lose them in the sea of incoming mail that piles new to-do items right on top! So I decided I needed to implement a task management system so I can organize, prioritize and COMPLETE my tasks!

I am so impressed with "Remember the Milk" . I am using the FREE version of the software and LOVE it! I was able to forward my to-do's out of my inbox on my gmail and send them directly to the software where I was then able to categorize them by project and clients and set my deadlines! It was so easy!

I then deleted those emails out of my inbox and discovered that there were less than 30 that I needed to actually respond to or keep active in my email!

Remember the Milk has so many great services, including paid features and I Phone Apps! I am still learning about them all, but am so impressed with my free version thus far that I think I might be a converting customer!
